Woodbridge resident Liliana Nora Loschiavo Sierra, 67, and Alfredo Rodolfo Sobrero, 90, of Sterling, have been identified by investigators as the two passengers who were killed when their driver wound up crashing off I-66 in Gainesville.

Shortly before 2:15 p.m. on Oct. 1, members of the Prince William County Police Department were called to the I-66 express exit ramp near University Boulevard, where there was a reported single-vehicle crash with a driver and two passengers inside suffering from critical injuries.

Investigators say that the 75-year-old driver from Sterling was behind the wheel of a 2023 Audi Q5 heading west on the express lanes, when he took the exit towards University Boulevard; however, he failed to slow or turn at the end of the ramp, traveling through the intersection, crossing all travel lanes, and striking the concrete barrier.

All three were rushed to area hospitals by paramedics where Sierra and Sobrero were both later pronounced dead. The driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

It is unclear what caused the incident.

The crash remains under investigation.
